Citizenship and Service

Citizenship encourages people to think about others. It is about having consideration for and working with other people in the community. Citizenship is an important part of becoming a well-rounded person.

At Ormiston we are developing citizenship through our Service programme which provides opportunities for students to participate in and with the community - whether through sports umpiring, working with preschoolers, mentoring young people, working with the elderly or volunteering for environmental or cultural projects. These activities, which take place once a week, build self-esteem and help young people realise they have something to offer.

Students at Ormiston Senior College are encouraged to have their engagement with the wider community recognised through participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Awards and to develop the skills to become contributing global citizens.
