Gateway Programmes

Gateway is a government-funded program offering senior secondary students the opportunity to achieve a minimum of ten NCEA credits and an extended work placement in an industry of interest. In 2012 we will offer a range of Gateway opportunities.

Gateway Aviation:
In conjunction with the industry training organisation, Aviation Travel and Tourism Training Organisation (ATTTO), and the generous support of the work place, Auckland Aero Club (www.aac.org.nz), Ormiston Senior College students are involved in the Gateway aviation programme.
Students have the opportunity to achieve Level 1 and Level 2 NCEA credits including: US16818, US19585, US19586, US19587, US20676 and US20677.

The work placement includes a practical component where students will undertake flight training as well as investigations into engineering, avionics and associated aviation career paths.

Students who complete the Gateway Aviation program will be recognised in a special graduation ceremony offered by Auckland Aero Club.

Advanced Aviation (Private Pilot’s License):
This course is offered in conjunction with Auckland Aero Club. It attracts limited funding, so there is a significant financial commitment required from students.

This course includes the theoretical component required to prepare students for their Private Pilot’s License examinations as well as intensive practical flight instruction. Students will receive intensive instruction and training one day each week at Auckland Aero Club. More information is available form the college.

Personalised Gateway Programmes:
In 2012 we have planned personalised Gateway training programmes for students in: Electrical, Hairderessing, Health Services, Hospitality, Journalism, Signmaking, Travel and Tourism.

Other Gateway programmes will become available to address student interests. Students should speak to their Learning Advisor about Gateway training opportunities.
