Why Auckland? Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city of a population of more than 1.2 million people. Nestled around two harbours and with 50 islands in close proximity to the city, it is easy to understand why Auckland is known as the City of Sails. Our geography and mild climate provides Aucklanders with a great lifestyle. From anywhere in the city, we are close to stunning swimming beaches, black sand surf beaches and pristine bush ranges. In addition, we have beautiful elevated vantage points all over the city in which to explore, relax and watch the world go by. The central city is an entertainment precinct, full of amazing shops, cafes, cinemas, live theatre, comedy clubs and restaurants. There are also smaller entertainment precincts scattered across the city, meaning that you never have to go very far to find something to do. In addition we have numerous museums, art galleries and libraries scattered throughout the city. Close to Ormiston Senior College is an ice-skating rink and a skateboard park. One of Auckland’s largest shopping precincts, Botany Town Centre, is only a five-minute drive away. As well as many shops, it also has movie theatres, cafes and restaurants. A trip to Auckland would not be the same without visiting Waiheke Island, walking up extinct volcano Rangitoto, taking an easy walk to one of Auckland’s many waterfalls, sailing on the harbour, visiting weekend markets, soaking up the atmosphere at the Viaduct Harbour (home to New Zealand’s Americas Cup team), or (if you’re keen) bungy jumping off the Harbour Bridge or Sky Tower.
