Important reminder for Term 2:

Use of Mobile Phones TERM 2, 2024

The government has indicated that it will legislate that all schools ban the student use of mobile phones during the school day. This legislation will be in effect from the start of Term 2, this year. The expectation was that schools will do this voluntarily from the beginning of the 2024 school year, rather than wait for the legislation to be enacted.

Therefore,  Ormiston Senior College has adopted the Ministry of Education recommended approach of “Away for the Day” since the beginning of this school year.

This is a reminder that from the start of Term 2 this means that mobile phones either are:

1. not brought to school  at all

OR

2. are switched off and kept in bags at all times. This is a gate to gate approach - from entering the school grounds in  the morning, to exiting the school grounds at the end of the school day.

The exception is if it is used as part of learning  with permission from your teacher or you have dispensation from the principal.

We will be working through your Learning Advisors and Kāinga Leaders if you do not meet our expectations. We will be following the approach that we have distributed to you earlier this year.
